T Accounts

What is a T Account?

A T account is a depiction of an account in the double entry system.

How it Works

You use T accounts for explanation purposes. 

It is called a T account because it looks like a T.

​To begin an explanation, you name the account.

​Then to aid explanation, the account is divided into two sides.

The right hand side is the credit side.

​You use this side if money has come from the account.

The other side of the account is the debit side.

You use this side if money went to the account.
